That's pretty unlikely, Cheryl. Sprint training doesn't adequately prepare a swimmer for long distances, plus swimming in open water's a whole new ball game compared to the pool (as you well know). Even the fastest women in the world barely break 2 hours. You can check online to see the Olympic results for the 10K.

This one was great fun to write. And a fun read that takes you to oceans all over the world! Dana just popped into my head. I wasn't thinking of Dara Torres. This character is 20-something. And Dara is a sprinter - I don't think 10k open water races are on her itinerary. But you never know!

Good day I am so delighted I found your site, I really
found you by error, while I was searching on Digg for something else, Anyhow I am here now and would just like to say kudos for
a remarkable post and a all round thrilling blog (I also love the theme/design),
I don't have time to go through it all at the minute but I have book-marked it and also included your RSS feeds, so when I have time I will be back to read a great deal more, Please do keep up the superb job.

Hi Cheryl,
I agree when it comes to diet, it's all about what we're used to. And then if you want to improve, you have to recalibrate your tastes. I still remember doing that after college, when I'd acquired a taste for junk food and too much alcohol (along with about 25 pounds). Now if you put fresh food and junk side by side, I prefer the healthier fare.

It sounds like you had an interesting trip to CA. What took you to the competition?

It's pretty much a cultural thing- hispanic, black and southern white.

Just got back from the beach scene in California and attended a Jr. Lifeguard competition.
Great to see all kinds of kids in shape.

It's role models and NOT what kids get in school!
